Our Team

Curran Edland

Curran is an avid supporter of sustainable energy. As a 6th generation Montanan, he understands the incredible value that our environment holds in our state, as well as the energy needs of Montana households and businesses. Bringing renewable energy opportunities to the Flathead Valley is a dream now realized for Edland and Northstone Solar.

Raised in Whitefish, Curran’s interest in environmental sustainability began to blossom at Whitefish High School. Curran served as President of the FREEFLOW Advanced Field Science Club and was a member of Whitefish High School’s Environmental Club. Curran’s success in science and math allowed him to maintain a 4.0 grade point average, all while playing an integral role on the boys' soccer team and eventually bringing consecutive state championships home to WHS.

After graduating from Whitefish in 2013, Curran accepted athletic and academic scholarships to attend Robert Morris University in Moon Township, Pennsylvania. At Robert Morris, Curran played soccer for the Colonials for four years and majored in mechanical engineering. Curran’s interest in sustainable energy was a core principle of his studies, as he traveled to Germany in 2015 as part of a study abroad program that focused on Germany’s rising green energy economy. Curran graduated from Robert Morris with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2017.

Curran returned to the Flathead and immediately immersed himself back into the Whitefish community. Curran accepted an assistant coaching position with the Whitefish Bulldogs Boys Soccer Program and soon after began serving the City of Whitefish as a sustainability consultant for Montana Energy Corps. Curran conducted an energy audit for the Whitefish School District and crafted a corresponding energy plan designed to reduce costs and energy output for the entire district. Curran also worked directly with Climate Smart Country and the City of Whitefish to further develop and promote Whitefish’s Climate Action Plan.

In 2019, Curran was hired as the Operations Manager for Northstone Solar under company founder Lee Calhoun. After over two years of working with Northstone, Curran purchased the company in the Winter of 2021.

Thomas Clark

Growing up in Whitefish, Thomas Clark and Curran shared similar interests in both sustainability and the game of soccer. Thomas graduated with Curran in 2013 after serving as editor of the high school newspaper and captain of the soccer team. Thomas accepted athletic and academic scholarships to attend The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington.

During his time at Evergreen, Thomas pursued a degree in Sustainability Studies while competing as a goalkeeper with the Geoducks Soccer Program. In 2015, Thomas developed an independent study curriculum resulting in an internship at Solheimar Ecovillage in southern Iceland after being specially admitted into a graduate level program as a sophomore. Thomas was awarded Academic All-Conference Honors in 2016-2017 and was named the Evergreen State College Men’s Soccer Most Inspirational Player during his senior campaign. Thomas graduated from Evergreen in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in Sustainability Studies.

Much like Curran, Thomas moved back to the valley and immediately became involved in the community. Thomas served as an assistant coach with the Columbia Falls High School soccer program for two years, before being hired as the Head Coach of the CFHS Girls Varsity Soccer program in 2019. Thomas worked in online sports journalism in the years after graduation and was the Lead National Writer for the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL), and a staff writer for Urban Pitch, a soccer-based publication from Los Angeles.

Thomas joins the Northstone team with an academic background in sustainability and a drive to help make the Flathead Valley more environmentally sustainable.
