Net Zero House In Whitefish MT?

The Whitefish Pilot recently published a story about one of our residents who has installed a solar system on his townhouse. That townhouse was purpose build to attempt a net zero house here in the Flathead Valley.  A lot of people here think that since there isn’t a great solar resource in the dead of winter that “solar doesn’t work” in the Flathead.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  A grid tied house can run credits with the utility for excess production when the sun is plentiful and burn those credits up when the sun isn’t plentiful.  It works similar to firewood, you build up your winter supply when it is plentiful, here in the Flathead that is primarily our very long sunny days from April through September.  Here is a link to the story.   https://whitefishpilot.com/news/2021/mar/24/homeowner-constructs-house-goal-making-it-net-zero/
